The Pont du Gard, an ancient masterpiece in the heart of Provence

Just a few kilometres from Nîmes and Uzès, the Pont du Gard stands as the most impressive testament to Roman engineering in France. This monumental aqueduct, built in the 1st century AD, holds the record for the highest Roman aqueduct bridge in the world at 49 metres high.

Recognised for its exceptional value and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, this Roman architectural jewel spans three levels of majestic arches.  The aqueduct, of which the Pont du Gard is the most spectacular part, once covered 50 kilometres to carry water from Uzès to Nîmes, a remarkable feat of engineering for its time.

Today, the Pont du Gard site offers visitors a unique immersive experience. Set in the unspoilt natural surroundings of Provence-Occitania, travellers can explore 2,000 years of Roman history at their own pace. Listed as one of the 50 most beautiful monuments in the world by the Guide du Routard, the Pont du Gard reveals a history spanning more than 40 centuries, well beyond Roman times.

Whether you're a Roman history buff, a lover of ancient architecture or simply looking for an exceptional site in Provence, the Pont du Gard invites you to take a trip back in time in the heart of an unspoilt Mediterranean landscape.
