We recommend that you take your time to fully enjoy your visit to the site and the monument. Generally speaking, you should allow at least 1 hour and 30 minutes for a self-guided visit. For a more complete visit of the discovery areas and/or a guided tour, allow at least half a day and ideally the whole day to be able to stroll along the numerous footpaths, on the banks of the Gardon and in the garrigue.
We recommend that you ideally plan a full day on the site. You can start with a guided tour of the Pont du Gard, which will allow you to cross the third level of the monument, where water circulated in Roman times, in the company of a mediator. Then, a walk on the numerous footpaths, on the banks of the Gardon and in the garrigue will delight young and old. You can have lunch at the Bistrot on the left bank or at the restaurant Les Terrasses on the right bank. Then, we invite you to discover the discovery areas located on the left bank to learn more about the history of the Nîmes aqueduct, the Pont du Gard and the surrounding site: one of the largest interpretation centres of Roman engineering in France opens the doors of its 2,500 m2 museum, the Ludo area for children aged 5 to 12, and its cinema with the projection of a 15-minute film on the history of the monument.
